Launch of the MHS solid carbide drills for die & mould machining

June 02, 2008

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured the new MHS solid carbide drills for applications in the die & mould industry. The MHS drill range will complement the already existing WSTAR drill series. The MHS drills will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo).
MHS The MHS is capable of non-peck drilling of plates used for resin & die casting moulds. Conventionally, drilling of moulds is carried out prior to heat treating and requires some form of finishing. However the MHS can be used to drill parts that have already been heat-treated (35~55HRC), and this results in a reduction of the overall manufacturing process.

Key features of the MHS

1.
Capable of non-peck drilling of shallow to deep holes in pre-hardened and hardened steel.
2.
High precision drilling is possible due to the use of a unique guide pad design and high rigidity geometry.
3.
Shank diameters are even, possible to use in combination with milling holders.
4.
Flute lengths have been designed for use with the various plates thicknesses used in the die & mould industry, making it easy to make machining programmes.
